Relax...It's Just Sex è la seconda opera cinematografica di P.J. Castellaneta dopo Together Alone, vincitore come miglior lungometraggio ai festival di Berlino, Los Angeles, San Francisco e Torino. La storia parte da un modello narrativo piuttosto usato nel cinema americano da Il grande freddo in poi: un gruppo di amici attorno ai 30 anni, le loro vite, le loro gioie e i loro dolori. Un gruppo - come sempre più spesso avviene -, dall'orientamento sessuale e dal background alquanto eterogeneo: 3 eterosessuali, 3 lesbiche, 5 gay - latino-americani, dei neri e dei bianchi. Dall'etero pettegola (la Jennifer Tilly di Bound) alla coppia di gay cristiani palestrati, dalla lesbica sportiva e maschiaccio (la Lori Petty di Tank Girl) al pittore iconoclasta gay nero: cosa volete di più? Non definibile come commedia né come film drammatico, Relax... esplora l'amore e il sesso con uno sguardo che, sebbene predominantemente omosessuale (lesbico e gay insieme), non esclude nessuna delle loro possibili forme di manifestazione. Relax...It's Just Sex is P.J. Castellaneta's second feature after TogetherAlone, awarded as best feature in many film festivals like Berlin, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Turin. The story starts from a narrative pattern quite spread in american cinema since The Big Chill: a thirtysomething group of friends, their lives, joys and grieves. The 90's add a healthy dose of different sexual orientations and different backgrounds: 3 straights, 3 lesbians, 5 gay - latinos, blacks and whites. From the gossipy straight (Jennifer Tilly - seen in Bound) to the couple of gym queens gay christians to the sporty tomboy dyke (Lori Petty from Tank Girl) to the iconoclast black gay painter: what more do you want? Neither comedy nor drama, Relax... explores love and sex with a predominantly gay look that doesn't exclude any of their other possible forms. |
